Meet Krys

My career as a nurse spans over 20 years.  I was a hospital based trained nurse, and I still remember all the back care rounds where we used to sit people up, check their vitals and have a good chat.  I loved it, talking to people from all walks of life and helping them to recover and go home.  As hospital training was phased out, I upgraded my qualification to a Bachelor of Health Science in Nursing and completed an Intensive Care Course at St Vincent’s Hospital in Darlinghurst, Sydney.  I feel very privileged to have worked in Intensive Care, witnessing every scenario you can possibly imagine.

Nutrition wasn’t really on my radar until I had children of my own.  I had a child who was significantly withdrawn, experienced tantrums at the slightest aggravation and had trouble learning at school.  I saw a naturopath who helped me clean up his diet and remove gluten.  It seemed like she was asking the impossible.  But, in the end, this was something that I had control over and that I could do, so I changed the lives of my whole family, my extended family and is a key influencer of friends and my community.  Giving up gluten and cleaning up my family's food choices made an enormous difference.  The health of our whole family improved, dramatically.

From this remarkable experience, I went back to College and studied Nutritional Medicine for 3 years full time.  Since 2013, I have been working as a nutritionist, Krys Lojek Nutrition.

My aim as a qualified nutritionist is helping people better understand the power of fresh food and healthy lifestyle to feel better and improve their health.  Our health is so important to us, yet many of us take that we will be healthy as a given. No matter what your age or how you feel today, embracing a whole food diet and healthy lifestyle will give you the foundation to improve your health.

I work with people to think of their health strategically-to assess where they are at today, set measurable goals, and to assess.   We tend to think that what we do short term (i.e. a diet, a 12 week challenge etc) will have lasting results, and sometimes they do, but most often it is making the little changes every day that will have long lasting impact.

I love the analogy of comparing the way we look at our health to the way we take care of our cars...with our cars, we take them in for an annual service, check tires, add water when necessary and provide the proper fuel.   Not surprisingly,  our cars tend to work pretty well.  Contrast that to our health...if we took care of our health in the same way and looked at it more preventatively i.e. used the best fuel (healthy, real food), made sure we weren't deficient in key nutrients, and had a preventative check up once or twice a year, just imagine how our health could improve?

I am not about guilt, fads or unachievable goals.  Through personal consultations, testing, practical food and lifestyle advice,  and education,  I hope to help you move step by step towards a healthier life.

I am lucky to have grown up in a health minded family in California, where fresh, healthy food was the norm.  I have a liberal arts degree from UC Berkeley and had a really enjoyable and challenging career in Account Management and Sales for more than 20 years.  After having my 3 children, and watching my father suffer and succumb to Renal Cancer, I knew I wanted to try make  of a difference to peoples' health and wellbeing.  I completed my Advance Diploma of Nutrition in 2015 from Nature Care College and have been practicing helping people recognise the power of healthy eating since then.    I feel my experience as a mum of 3 kids (1 of whom is now Type 1 Diabetic), friend, businesswoman, and a volunteer gives me  the empathy and skills to help people identify and reach their health goals through the foundation of good, sound nutrition.
